Another great, amazing, challenge-filled with miracles week!
First I want everyone to watch this video called “Lift”. Maybe some of you have already seen it?
I love this video. It made me really stop and think. Do I truly look to serve others? When I have a chance to serve, do I complain about it? Should I even call it service? Because in reality, I am learning more and receiving more blessings than the little work I am putting in on the grand scale of things.
This past Sunday, Coruña had its typical crazy weather. Sunny one second, crazy wind and rain the next, back to beautiful blue skies Coruña.
Hermana Braun and I had gone to visit someone in the hospital and on the way home, the crazy wind and rain hit. We had one umbrella, no jackets. Picture in your head two young girls, trying to keep our skirts from flying up, umbrella breaking because it’s so windy, with no cover in site. We were close to a home of some conversos recientes (recent converts), and had been planning to stop by their house in the next couple of days anyways, so we ran straight there. We rang their timbre, and they opened the door, saw us soaking wet and pretending not to shake from being cold, and then she just took over! Sweet Amable ran and grabbed her biggest coats, her blow dryer, socks, new shoes, everything she could think of to warm us up! Hahaha, it was the sweetest thing ever. Hermana Braun and I were just dying laughing as we kept repeatedly saying “estamos bien, realmente!!” (“we’re okay, really!!”) But she just kept replying “oh no no, mama de Galicia, soy tú mama de Galicia!” (“I’m your mama from Galicia!” Btw Galicia, is the region that Coruña is in).
Her sweet service was a bit over the top, a bit funny, but most of all, full of love!
Mosiah 2:17 says: And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.
Service is the best! The men in that video and sweet sweet Amable are the perfect examples. Our Heavenly Father has given us so much, and we can give just a little back by helping out our family, our friends, and the random stranger on the street.
One thing I’ve learned for sure about service, is that it is the absolute best way to be happy. When you look outward, you are happy. If you want to be a better person inward, the way to do it is look outward! It is as simple as that.
I read this talk from Elder Haleck called “having the vision to do” the other day and loved this line. He said, “As they act on their vision to serve, they bless the lives of many and, in the process, change their own lives.” My mission, even just the short 3 months I’ve been here, has changed my life. And it’s not because of all this time looking at my own flaws and weaknesses, but because those flaws and weaknesses are improved by serving others. I am nowhere close to perfect, but there is no doubt that I am happy.
Never go a day without doing a little bit of service, whatever that service may be! Pray for opportunities to serve! Have a great week! 😄
Here’s some pictures from this week…
For Pday this week, our mission president and his family and our entire zone came to A Coruña. We have zone conference the next day (Tues., 8/25). We had a blast showing them how beautiful it is here!
(Here’s some information about the Tower of Hercules.)
Have a great week!
